Biography
Derek is a Civil Engineer from Co Cavan, who was reared on a dairy farm. He purchased land and built up a beef fattening business. He also breeds Irish Draught horses. Subsequently he acquired additional parcels of land and built up a forestry enterprise. He and his wife also run a self-catering enterprise with two high quality houses. He is MD of Sheelin & McCabe, which provides architectural, engineering and planning services. He is very active in his local community, and was chair of the Cavan-Monaghan Rural Development Co-op (LEADER). He is active in a number of other local community bodies.
