A Nuffield Scholarship is a life-changing opportunity for primary producers in Ireland to travel internationally, research topics relevant to Irish agriculture, and connect with a global network of agricultural leaders.
Each year, Nuffield Ireland awards up to 6 scholarships, providing scholars with an €18,000 bursary to support their research travels and participation in the global Nuffield programme.
Scholars spend a minimum of 10 weeks travelling internationally over two years, attending the Contemporary Scholars Conference, participating in the Global Focus Programme, and producing a detailed research report.

Programme Components
Contemporary Scholars Conference
Join scholars from around the world at the annual CSC. For 2026, this will be held in Japan from March 8-15.

Global Focus Programme
Participate in an intensive group study tour visiting multiple countries and agricultural systems.
- • 2-3 week intensive programme
- • Visit multiple continents
- • Group learning experience
Individual Study Travel
Design your own research itinerary, visiting operations and experts relevant to your chosen topic.
- • Minimum 10 weeks total travel
- • Self-directed research
- • 10,000-word final report
Eligibility Criteria
Requirements
- Ordinarily resident in Ireland
- Primary producer in agriculture, horticulture, or related sector
- Typically aged 25-45 (flexibility considered)
- Able to commit to minimum 10 weeks international travel
- Available for CSC and Global Focus Programme
- Able to complete 10,000-word report within 2 years
