A stud farmer from Co Wicklow, Shane has a series of qualifications in Equine studies from colleges in the UK and the Netherlands. He operates a pedigree beef, sport horse and forestry enterprise. His study aimed to explore how stud books in other countries evaluate their thoroughbreds and their inclusion in their breeding programmes. He also aims to find how the different breed goals and breed models could be used to improve the breeding of internationally competitive sport horses in Ireland.
