James is from Whitechurch in Co Cork. He retired from active dairy farming in 2019 and now supplies replacement stock to the dairy industry along with other non farming business interests. He is a member of the Regional Committee of Dairygold Co-op and was chairman of his local dairy discussion group. He is actively involved in local community groups. His study topic was ‘The Structure of the Irish Dairy Industry: A Constraint to Profitable Dairy Expansion?’ He travelled to NZ, Denmark and the Netherlands for his topic.
