11.30: Panel Discussion: ‘Future trends in Agri Food Policy – How does the sector need to respond?’

An expert panel consisting of:

Tom Arnold – Chairman of the 2030 Agri Food Strategy Committee, was appointed by the European Commission to head an international team of experts to assess how best to develop sustainable food systems globally, and former CEO of Concern.

Karina Pierce – Associate Professor of Dairy Production in UCD, former member of the Board of Teagasc and Nuffield Scholar.

Declan Kelleher   –  Permanent Representative of Ireland to the European Union in Brussels from September 2013 to March 2020, Ambassador of Ireland to China from 2004 to 2013, and former Representative of Ireland to the EU Political and Security Committee in Brussels.

Tadhg Buckley   – Director of Policy/Chief Economist with the Irish Farmers Association and .Nuffield Scholar

The aim of this discussion is to challenge the Nuffield community to consider solutions to the challenges facing the sector.

NUFFIELD IRELAND BANQUET 2021

The Nuffield Ireland Banquet took place on Friday 12th November 2021 and was kindly sponsored by Bank of Ireland.

Eoin Lowry, Head of Agriculture with Bank of Ireland welcomed guests and spoke about the challenges and opportunities facing Irish agriculture as we head towards 2022.

During the banquet presentations were made to; the newly announced 2021 Scholars, the 2019 Scholars, and the 2000 Scholars who are celebrating 20 years as Nuffield Scholars.

The night also marked the retirement of Nuffield Ireland Executive Secretary John Tyrrell. Speaking at the banquet, Chairperson Karen Brosnan thanked John for his 9 years of outstanding service to Nuffield.

Karen spoke of “ his role as mentor, advisor, his supportive voice and his ability to drive standards. John built a network of people, and their respect for him has made Nuffield Ireland stronger and better resourced. John created new networks across the globe in Nuffield with other countries, learning and exchanging knowledge that enabled Nuffield to become a stronger global entity as a result. He did all this with a calm and respectful personality always showing a sense of humour, warmth and care for everyone he came across ”
